Achieving planning consent for a luxury south coast hotel development

Challenge
Engain’s ecology team acted on behalf of Rotolok, collaborating with council and regulatory bodies to establish a workable biodiversity balance, and progress for the build of a luxury hotel, spa and restaurant, on a 6.5 acre derelict island.
The £10million scheme to resurrect this important part of Plymouth’s heritage required careful ecological consideration; identifying and addressing potential risk and impact on important wildlife populations, and advising on an appropriate planning approach.
With consent now awarded, landowner Rotolok has the green light to start developing the island in Plymouth Sound, in preparation for public tours.
