Building a robust planning application

Challenge

Delivering a plan for sustainable residential development opened the gates for significant ecological enhancement of a former industrial site in rural Wiltshire.

We provided extensive consultancy to enable the submission of a robust application for a new sustainable housing project in the village of Holt.

To support the scheme’s strong environmental principles, we conducted ecological studies and monitoring to inform a carefully balanced proposal for housing respectful of the local area’s biodiversity, community and history.

The resulting application presents a vibrant, characterful space in which to live – retaining a nod to its former industrial use while addressing a more contemporary need for a safe, attractive and nurturing environment, for both local wildlife and future residents. Planned ecological features include new public spaces, sustainable drainage, a bat corridor and areas for play.

Following the submission of the planning application, it is hoped that this scheme could be completed by 2020.
