Challange

Starting with a blank canvas and as part of the legacy of a Brazilian landowner, we were tasked with coordinating a sustainable social and environmental masterplan for a new major town near Campinas, Brazil, covering over 40 hectares.

The area has been socially impoverished but has the resources to create better quality of living in harmony with regional biodiversity. A focus was creating a sustainable water supply that would support the local population and the rich native wildlife.
Engain was commissioned to manage the environmental consents, a vast range of stakeholder workshops with local representatives and regional agencies, and design the environmental features of the new town including its wetland resources.
We analysed complex environmental information from on the ground surveys and digital data from geographical information systems. As part of the services we delivered, we provided:
– Project management of the environmental masterplan
– Environmental planning and consenting
– Environmental and ecological impact assessment for RIMA
Our scope of work was translated by in country colleagues at multiple stakeholder workshops for over 200 participants.
Potential environmental impacts were averted and through our experience of narrowing down on the best suitable option, we developed an achievable masterplan to meet the quality of life needs of the region.
