Engain is looking to offer internships to suitable university students, to work within an established environmental and ecological consultancy, undertaking field surveys and assisting in the general workload of a busy team.

You will be asked to assist with desk top studies, species and habitats surveys, environmental assessments and analysis, reporting and administrative duties.

We’re offering the opportunity to work alongside experienced consultants, to gain invaluable insight into a commercial consultancy.

You will benefit from working with professionals committed to providing high standards of service to clients in environmental project development and management. We work on a range of transport, energy, renewable, housing and research projects, including climate adaptation studies and ecosystems services. Some of our work is based overseas.


You will need to be committed, pragmatic, enthusiastic, and prepared to manage a varied timetable and workload. Some surveys will involve night work.

You will have the following attributes:

• interest in pursuing a career in ecology/environment;
• some knowledge of UK wildlife and ecology, Environmental Impact Assessment, sustainability, carbon footprinting;
• good observational and recording skills;
• ability to work in a team and to communicate effectively;
• excellent time management; and
• competent with Word and Excel, and Macs.

Please note that the above skills are not expected from a commercial context, but from your own studies and related activities.

You will have a full UK driving licence and own transportation.

Start date: ASAP


Our main UK office is in Frome, Somerset. We’re based in a town centre Grade II listed former school building; a contemporary and collaborative workspace used by many growing independent businesses.
