Capture of rare species wins national recognition

15th November 2017

Congratulations to Emily Wood from our ecology team, who has won the 2017 Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) photo competition.

Captured during a roost check with a local bat conservation group in Wiltshire this summer, Emily’s shot provides a striking glimpse into the nocturnal, woodland dwelling world of Bechstein’s bats.

Whether we are advising developers, land or property owners, or wildlife volunteering, safeguarding the habitats of protected species such as Bechstein’s plays a key role. This award-winning photograph provides a particularly encouraging result for a rare UK species – evidence of a colony thriving in the South West, despite its proximity to nearby development and urban sprawl.
